Our last 4 blogs have been about simple things you can do for yourself to detox and heal your body. This blog introduces you to Eden’s Mental Health Tool Box. All the tools are simple, easy to use and very effective in healing even our deepest wounds. Moving Beyond Victim Consciousness is one of the simple tools you can use to heal your emotions, mind and spirit.
There is scientific evidence for something called, “the abused chain of abuse.” It means people who have been abused tend to abuse others. Victim Consciousness is our negative thoughts and beliefs, either inherited or inflicted. We verify these unhealthy thoughts and beliefs through three roles found on the victim triangle. We’re all spinning around in ourselves and in our relationships, playing one of these 3 roles: The Victim believes she’s been abused, weak and needs someone to rescue her. The Rescuer offers unasked for advice and caregiving: believing her needs don’t matter and she has the right to disrespect other’s boundaries. The Persecutor is fearful, defensive and abusive. Interacting from one of these roles is the only style of relating to ourselves and others that many of us know.
The goal of all spiritual practice and psychotherapy is to transform yourself into Observer Consciousness, to be able to welcome the teaching in every present moment. We interact with ourselves and others differently when we respond from the higher frequencies of these roles: The Observer, The Nurturer and The Asserter. The Observer is to be our best self and compassionate witness to life. The Nurturer focuses on taking care of self first and only then extends a hand to others. The Asserter perceives life as positively abundant and radiates self assurance.  
Ok, so what’s the tool you ask? There are 3 steps to wake up and recover from victim consciousness: 

Show up! This means to be present for yourself and willing to do whatever it takes to be happy and healthy.

 Align with a higher frequency in a daily practice of any kind! This can be meditation, yoga, prayer, a devotional reading, music, dancing, singing, etc.

Clear! At Eden we teach these invaluable techniques to clear negative beliefs, thoughts and feelings: Emotional Freedom Technique (Tapping), “The Work” of Byron Katie, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. (We’ll show you these tools and more in future blogs.)
 A well known secret to happiness is this: The only thing we can control in life is our reaction. Change the way you think about the things that happen! There are no mistakes, ever. The Universe is unfolding as it should; it always has and it always will.
